Multi-Agent AI

Can Systems Intelligence emerge within a group of AI agents?

‍This question was sparked by another question from systems thinker George Pór, in response to my article Systems Thinking... And Then What?

George asked about Systems Intelligence in the context of a swarm of AI agents. Until then, I had kept away from the topic of AI, my focus was to define the conditions for systems intelligence to emerge in people, in different contexts and environments. A slow and messy process.

George’s question triggered more questions:

Can a group of AI agents serve as a testing laboratory for systems intelligence?

‍And…

Can systems intelligence emerge from a group of AI agents?  Can we create the conditions for that to happen? And if so, what might those conditions be?

Over the coming months, I plan to bring together a multidisciplinary group of people for a series of conversations exploring these questions. Together we'll examine current approaches to multi-agent AI, develop practical hypotheses, and identify opportunities for experimentation.

‍ ‍

The scope of these conversations, and the invitee list are still work in progress. I will post updates and a synthesis here in due course.
